About Jack
This is the Jack who inspired JackBeNimble.
Jack was an autistic high school student with Tourette's, ADHD and a passion for storytelling. In his grade school years, we home educated because we could not find a school that was a good fit for Jack - public or private. For 9th - 11th grades, he attended a public high school, spending half his days in special education and the other half in accelerated classes. We negotiated an extra year to build skills for college and Jack finished high school at a Kentucky public residential high school on a college campus. Unfortunately, he was not permitted to have the support of his IEP so it was a struggle and even now as a full time college student, Jack still has to contend with the disparities of understanding of not only his disabilities but of what is required to accommodate him. Check out our Dual Credit Policy brief here!
Like so many students with disabilities, Jack's educational journey has been challenging - not only for Jack and his family but for his educators as well.
Jack is one student - out of millions whose
lives are impacted every day by dedicated teachers, aides, and specialists doing what they can, often in spite of a system which exhausts and limits, rather than energizes and inspires.
JackBeNimble is dedicated to transforming the special education system for all those whose lives it touches - using the power of community, advocacy, and ingenuity.
We believe that special education does not have to be a battleground. We invite you to join us & Jack in reimagining special education so that it works for all - even Beau, Jack's best friend!
